It’s Getting Hotter
We’ve had 12 straight months in a row of record breaking heat. We first started measuring the surface temperatures 150 years ago, and fluctuations were always present within the readings and the climate. However, never before in the past 150 years ago of measuring surface temperatures have they ever been as high as they were this past year. To put these findings in perspective, April 2015 was the hottest April on record, then every month that followed after that was the hottest month ever respectively. That should be at least eye opening, as this sequence as never happened before. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration readings show that each month is breaking records by around a consistent 1.1 degrees Celsius. This doesn’t seem to be exceptionally frightening, but on a global recording scale this is a record shattering figure to increase by.
NASA and the JMA back up NOAA’s Findings
Whether you believe in climate change or not, it seems that we are on a trend of rising temperatures. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration along with the Japan Meteorological Agency have both found the same level of temperature rises, some with even more worrying explanations. NASA has never recorded a departure from the mean surface temperature of each month more than 1 degrees Celsius.
In the past year, every single year has had a departure more than 1 degrees Celsius. The results seem to indicate that the temperatures are on an expedient incline rather than one that has happened gradually over time. The effect works something akin to a hot air balloon (in regards to explaining the temperature bubble increasing faster). When you fill up the hot air balloon with a gradual introduction of heat it begins to rise and eventually will hover at a certain distance from the ground. If you fill it with more heat it will begin to rise more and more due to the lack of cool air balancing out the increase from within the balloon itself.
It’s also important to note that the United States and North America have seen 2 degrees Celsius departure rates. This doesn’t mean our continent is the hottest, but it does mean that our rates are raising higher than other continents.
