Elderly Woman Beaten in Violent Home Invasion
A home invasion quickly turned violent in Brooklyn, New York this past weekend. Police arrested a 42-year-old Queens man after a violent home invasion. They say he pushed his way inside the home of a 70-year-old woman old, locked the door behind him, and told her he was hiding from the police.
According to investigators, the man began violently assaulting the elderly woman in her own home. He reportedly hit her with a vase and slashed her with glass from a broken mirror. The downstairs neighbor heard the commotion and called 911. When police arrived at the scene, they were forced to break down the victim’s door to save her. Officers used a taser to subdue the suspect during the incident.
Police detained the suspect and the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital. She received 30 stitches and is currently in stable condition. The suspect has been charged with assault and burglary and has admitted to being in the building. However, the suspect denied the assault even though the responding officers arrived on the scene during the melee.
Neighbors say the victim has lived in her apartment for decades and that she often props the front door open. They said that while some used to do this, nobody can be that trusting today.
