Following a busy 2023 storm season, meteorologists say the 2024 hurricane season will feature 17 to 25 named storms. The National Weather Service expects eight to 13 of those tropical storms will become hurricanes. Furthermore, forecasters believe four to seven hurricanes will reach category 3, 4, or 5 strength. While meteorologists don’t have psychic capabilities, they rely on a wealth of empirical evidence in forecasting weather patterns with minimal error. NOAA forecasters say they have 70 percent confidence in their 2024 hurricane season predictions. Although we’ve yet to see our first named storm of the season, time is of the essence for those seeking steel-rated hurricane protection. In addition to safeguarding families against tornadoes and burglaries, our aboveground safe rooms can also withstand pulverizing hurricane-force winds.
Climate Change Continues To Drive Changing Weather Patterns
Scientists have attributed their hurricane forecast to a warmer-than-usual Atlantic Ocean and slowly developing La Nina conditions in the west. These converging dichotomous weather patterns, along with diminishing Atlantic trade winds, are conducive to tropical storm formation. Global warming and rising sea levels in the Atlantic will exacerbate dueling weather forces, allowing for greater storm surges during the 2024 hurricane season.
“Severe weather and emergencies can happen at any moment, which is why individuals and communities need to be prepared today,” said FEMA Deputy Administrator Erik A. Hooks. “Already, we are seeing storms move across the country that can bring additional hazards like tornadoes, flooding and hail. Taking a proactive approach to our increasingly challenging climate landscape today can make a difference in how people can recover tomorrow.”

Steel-Rated Protection For Every Season and Natural Disaster
Stop letting Mother Nature call the shots. Take control of your family’s safety by investing in steel gauge protection from U.S. Safe Room. Our aboveground shelters can withstand 250-mph windspeeds, well within the presumptive destructive range of most storms. But persistent hurricane-forced winds aren’t your only concern during tropical storms. Hurricanes are notorious for spawning offshoot tornadoes and water cyclones as the storm’s tightly-woven outer bands present ripe conditions for tornadic activity.
