While it’s still far too early to begin battening down the hatches in anticipation of a turbulent storm season, the 2019 Hurricane Season could be one for the record books as meteorologists are already forecasting an above-normal hurricane season.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is projecting four to eight hurricanes during the remainder of storm season. While skeptics may differ considering the tenuous nature of prognosticating, past seasons may give credence to the calamitous prediction.
Atlantic poised to unleash destructive storms
Last year, the slow-moving inner dynamics of hurricanes gave an ominous glimpse of the changing nature of these killer storms. Hurricane Florence’s grinding assault brought unprecedented flooding to the Carolinas, as some areas are still struggling to recover from the storm’s disastrous effects.
“This season (2018) packed a strong punch, but its impacts could have been far worse had it not been for the services NOAA provided alongside our emergency management partners and the preparedness activities taken by individuals,” said Neil Jacobs, Ph.D., NOAA assistant secretary of commerce for environmental observation and prediction.
The threshold for hurricane classification is pretty cut-and-dry although the trajectory and strength of each storm are dependent more upon atmospheric conditions than precedent alone. Hurricanes are cyclonic storms that have winds greater than 74 miles per hour while major storms pack punches with winds of more than 100 mph.
Recent news of heightened storm activity come at the tail-end of the highly indicative El Nino season in the Pacific Ocean, which normally minimizes hurricane activity in the Atlantic.
“This evolution, combined with the more conducive conditions associated with the ongoing high-activity era for Atlantic hurricanes that began in 1995, increases the likelihood of above-normal activity this year,” said Gerry Bell, the lead seasonal hurricane forecaster at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, according to NOAA.
U.S. Safe Room adds strength to existing structures
Hurricanes are one of nature’s anomalies. Despite recent advances in researching and forecasting, it’s still impossible to predict a storm’s path with 100 percent accuracy. Even with cutting edge technology and a well-executed escape plan, your family can become trapped in a logistical nightmare with little recourse other than riding out the catastrophic doom barreling down around you.
So, what do you do? The best course of action in escaping a natural disaster is to prepare and act as if the calamity is imminent. Why wait until it’s too late when you can take steps today to avoid the loss of life that is so synonymous with these storms. During the 2019 Hurricane Season, U.S. Safe Room is committed to keeping your family safe.
Modular safe rooms are a practical, affordable solution
Instead of reinventing the wheel or starting from scratch, U.S. Safe Room has a modular unit that is perfect for conforming existing structures into formidable shelters to protect your family. A U.S. Safe Room Knock-Down Unit epitomizes affordable protection with easy-to-install modular steel panels that can be fitted to any size room.
Confidential and affordable protection
You won’t have to worry about nosey neighbors wondering what you are up to either when you order one of our kits. As opposed to transporting an entire safe room long distances at a higher cost, these safe room kit panels are lightweight and can transported in a single non-descript truck. You can also choose to install the kit yourself or request the work of one of our qualified professionals. All our units are made from quality American steel, but also affordable with your budget in mind. Contact us today for a free quote!
