The 2015 Ohio Safe Room Rebate Program is a random selection process developed by the Mitigation and Recovery Branch of the Ohio Emergency Management Agency. This program provides a rebate to a select number of Ohio homeowners for the installation of above-ground or underground safe rooms. The program is application-based; if your application is randomly selected, you’re eligible for a rebate of 75% of the cost of the safe room, with a maximum of $5,250.
Eligible safe room designs must adhere to FEMA 320 and/or 361, as well as meeting the ICC 500 Standard for the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters. The safe room must be constructed and installed after being offered the rebate and receiving notice from the Ohio EMA to begin construction. Rebate recipients must have their safe room installed by a qualified company.
The Safe Room Rebate Program is a state-funded initiative dedicated to the mitigation of natural disasters for homeowners state-wide. Eligibility is determined by the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.
Ohio Safe Room Rebate Program Currently Accepting Applications
The deadline to apply for the rebate is at 5 p.m. January 31, 2015. The priority list will consist of the first 50 randomly-selected applicants; these 50 applicants will receive notification of their selection on or after February 6, 2015. Priority list notification is delivered via email. Priority list placement does not guarantee a rebate; applicants will be notified when and if their application has been selected for a safe room rebate and grant money is available.
The Ohio Safe Room Rebate Program is offered annually, and grant amounts are determined by the availability of federal and state funding. This program is an excellent opportunity for Ohio homeowners to install a safe room at their primary residence.
