Storm weary residents of the Deep South and Midwest just can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to severe weather. Communities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana are once again under a tornado watch. This comes just days after a swarm of twisters damaged these same storm prone areas. Early sprig is historically a busy time for severe weather. Colliding air masses from the Rockies and Gulf of Mexico can trigger explosive storm conditions that spawn countess tornadoes. Advances in forecasting and early tornado warning systems have undoubtedly saved countless lives, but the threat persists for Tornado Alley. The only guaranteed protection from tornadoes is an underground bunker from U.S. Safe Room.
What is A Tornado Watch?
A tornado watch is a term used by weather forecasters to describe that favorable conditions for a tornado exist in that watch area. While not intended to incite panic, the “watch” verbiage instills a sense of vigilance in monitoring conditions and future weather forecasts. A tornado warning means that a tornado has been spotted or indicated by a tell-tale radar signature, and that you must seek shelter immediately. Tornado warnings are broadcasted on regional television stations the moment they are issued. Some towns even installed tornado sirens to emphasize the seriousness of such warnings. Failure to adhere to these dire warnings can result in death of serious injury.
How Can You Stay Protected?
Storm cellars and basements were once the go-to shelter for tornadoes. Others have found refuge in a closet or bathtub. Advances in engineering and fabrication ushered in a new era of protection with underground storm shelters and bunkers. Manufactured from quarter-inch steel plating and solid steel welds, these subterranean fortresses have a built-in advantage against traditional shelters as they are also naturally protected by dirt and top-soil. Have you ever heard of a tornado burrowing deep into the ground? While storms have grown deadlier in recent years, twisters have yet to acquire such phenomenal attributes.
