How To Prepare A Safe Room With Pets
Here at U.S. Safe Room, our number one priority is safety. Not only are we worried about families, and valuables, but the safety of your pets. If you are like the millions of animal owners across the country, your pets have become a major part of your family. The chance that you and your pet will survive a flood, fire, hurricane or tornado all depends on the amount of planning you have done.
Not only should you have an emergency supply bag for you and your family, but you should also have one for your pet. Think about what is essential to live, and build it out from there. Create two kits; one with everything that your pet needs to stay in a location and the other should be more compact and lightweight in the situation that you have to move locations.
Food
You should be keeping at least three days’ worth of food in an air tight container. This prevents the food from spoiling.
Water
Store at least three days’ worth of fresh water specifically for your pet.
Medicines and medical records
Keep a small watertight container of your pet’s regular medicine.
Identification
Your pets should always wear a collar with name, contact information, and a rabies tag at all times. Make sure to have an extra leash and collar in your emergency pet supply kit. Always keep a picture of you and your pet together in the kit as well. If you become separated from your pet in an emergency, the documentation will help others to help in finding our pet.
These emergency kits are perfect for the use in one of our safe rooms. It gives you just enough supplies for your pet to last long enough until assistance arrives. Something as little as a plan can ultimately save your pet’s life. Our life safety and security structures provide peace of mind to you and your family in the event of a home invasion or severe weather.
